Markia Hearst

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Hi, my name is Markia Hearst, and I’m the owner of Hearst Psychotherapy. I’m so grateful you are here.

I know life’s challenges can be overwhelming and seem everlasting. You may be exhausted, frustrated, and hurt, doing your best to keep going. But sometimes, no matter how many steps you take, you might feel like you are in the same place—stuck and without hope for the future.

Whether you are dealing with past wounds, ongoing stressors, or societal oppression, I’m here to help. My mission is to foster a warm, genuine, and nonjudgmental space that honors your whole self and unique story.

I strongly believe in the power behind the client-therapist relationship and how it can plant the seeds for sustainable well-being. I aspire to make therapy available and safe for all human beings, especially through providing BIPOC therapists to the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals.

When I’m not supporting people in sessions, I love to spend time with my family traveling and enjoying summer vibes.  I also like my share of diverse music, cooking shows, and trash tv (who doesn’t?!).

My Experience

I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at South Carolina State University (let’s go Bulldogs!). Then I earned a Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of South Carolina (Gamecocks!). I worked in the nonprofit sector for over ten years, helping families and children impacted by sexual abuse and domestic violence. I have also traveled to Africa and Puerto Rico to work with underserved communities.

My Specialties

I mainly work with adults who have experienced trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to abuse, racism, and discrimination.

My treatment specialties also include anxiety, depression, women’s issues, and LGBTQIA+ issues.

BIPOC Therapists - Nicole Clark

Nicole Clark

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate

I began my career serving individuals with developmental disabilities. It was in that journey that I discovered my passion for the mental health field.  Through both life and work experiences, I have learned the importance of human connection, empowerment, and healing. I received my undergraduate degree at UNC Charlotte. Afterward, I got my Master’s in Social Work, with a clinical focus on children and families at the University of Southern California. I have experience working with children and adolescents in both residential and community settings. I also had the opportunity to work with individuals experiencing homelessness, at-risk youth, and inter-community management. These various experiences have shaped my clinical perspective and highlighted the importance of both the family system and the individual. I have specialized training in problem-solving therapy and motivational interviewing. I have worked with crisis management, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and family dynamics. I believe in a holistic approach, addressing the needs of my clients to support their overall development. I enjoy reading, aerial silks, dogs, and learning new skills. My goal is to help my clients reach their highest potential and assist families in living more harmonious and happier lives together. I look forward to working with you soon.

Harrison Flood

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate

Fear can cause us to sometimes forget everything and run, and you may be stuck wondering “why?”. However, we can also stand in our fears where we face everything and rise. If you are reading this, that means you are already taking the courageous steps to face that fear and you’re ready to rise above your current challenges and circumstances. You are brave for walking in that fear to seek help and I am here to support you in your healing journey.

My name is Harrison Flood and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Communications at UNC Charlotte and received my Master’s in Counseling from UNC Charlotte with a focus in clinical mental health counseling.  My clinical background includes working with young and older adults experiencing a range of different issues that include: anxiety, depression, adjustment, anger, relationship issues, grief and trauma. I offer an eclectic approach to therapy in which I use a range of evidenced based interventions to best address your presenting needs and concerns. These include person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), mindfulness and other holistic and strength-based approaches.

I also have a special interest in minority mental health and I’m a strong supporter of breaking the stigma around men’s mental health. It is not unmanly or weak to struggle. Everyone needs and deserves the necessary support no matter who they are.

It is my desire through this therapeutic journey that you will feel empowered to be your true authentic self. I provide a safe, empathic, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment in which we will work together to help you heal from hurts and develop healthy coping strategies that will help you thrive in your present. I look forward to working with you.

Shaquil Roberts

Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate

I’m Shaq Roberts, a licensed social worker with a passion for mental health and the needs of the LGBTQ+ and QPOC communities. As a Queer Person of Color, I have intentionally and specifically catered my education and work experience to match that of my life experience. This has driven me to pursue my Bachelor’s in Counseling Psychology and Social Work at East Stroudsburg University or Pennsylvania, as well as a Master’s of Social Work at Capella University.

I believe in utilizing an eclectic approach to therapy, pulling from various evidence-based modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and Trauma-Informed Care. This approach allows me to tailor my interventions to meet the unique needs and strengths of each individual I work with. I am passionate about providing culturally sensitive care, and I am committed to creating a safe and affirming environment for clients to explore their identities and experiences. As a Queer Person of Color myself, I understand the importance of representation in the mental health field, and I am dedicated to empowering others to find healing and growth within themselves.

I truly thrive in catering to the direct needs of our community. I have provided surgery letters for Gender Affirming Surgeries, connected folks to identity-affirming medical/behavioral health care, and provided therapeutic interventions to help folks explore their gender identity and sexuality. I strive to continually make an effort to improve the quality of life for the QPOC community through advocacy, amplifying voices, community engagement, and direct delivery of mental health services. It is my hope to continue empowering folks to become their most authentic selves and learn to heal and cope.
