Imagining a Better Life

Imagine

Have you ever imagined, believed or dreamed in something so vividly that it felt authentic? It felt real, like you were there and actually had the experience (good, bad or indifferent). Yeah, it was real.

I can recall a time when I had quit smoking and dreamed of having a cigarette. The view was so real, I was in the space where I would have a cigarette; outside, sitting in the in the sun, blowing smoke rings, listening to music as I inhaled and exhaled. I sat straight- up in my bed and was so disappointed in myself for my relapse. So confident I had abandoned my agreement to quit smoking. Only to be reassured it was but a dream.

Validation

Life oftentimes through blows at us that we believe we can’t see past or think we can’t get through. Perhaps a tragic accident, a major loss of a loved or the shameless victimization of someone’s indiscretion. These situations can lay us flat, dim our light, and leave us feeling helpless, breathless, bewildered and lost. These and each and every one of those feelings are valid and it is okay to stay down and take cover-momentarily. Giving ourselves permission to be present where we are, yet having the desire to be elsewhere, physical, mentally, emotionally or “D”- all-of the-above. All of our emotions and desires serve a purpose are valid and have meaning. We are HUMAN! Who knew???!!!!!!

Acknowledging our emotions and our humanness are the pinholes of light we need to help illuminate our path toward healing. YESS. IMAGINE THAT!

IMAGINE

It is often thought as we progress, get older or mature, that using our imagination is being childish, child-like, or even immature. As we come to age, we are expected to put childish things away and embrace adulthood where life can habitual, stoic, ritualistic and mundane.

However, as we advance in life, age and navigate our life-course is becoming more evident that, the art- of- imagining, can be healthy and has healing potential.

Our imagination is powerful. In relationship to healing it has the power to take us places we have never thought we would see; wholeness, contentment, and energized. Each journey toward restoration is as different and as unique as the individual and the circumstance, from which they come.

In other words-while there may be similarities in the journey there are equally has many, many variables. Someone path may be short and windy, another long and straight while yet another with hills valley, mountains and molehills. No matter the course; being “on the course” is where the healing lies. Imagining ourselves in motion; on the mark, marking time, moving forward, stepping back and moving forward, stepping back, back-back, side to side. REST. Its’ your journey to create.

Soon you will imagine stronger, imagine lighter, imagine longer, brighter.

Imagine it. Feel it. Believe it.
